Description
This two-day cervical spine course comprises an integrated manual therapy approach to the treatment of neck pain. The focus of examination and treatment is on the articular, neural, and motor systems, particularly of the C2-7 region. Essential background theory is covered, but the emphasis is on practical sessions. The content draws on work by many key manual therapists including Maitland, Edwards, Mulligan, Elvey, and Jull. Case studies are used to develop clinical reasoning and illustrate common clinical conditions. The evidence informing clinical practice is highlighted throughout the course.
The ratio of participants to tutors is kept low (maximum of 12:1) to ensure a high level of supervision and feedback.

- Cervical spine anatomy, pathoanatomy and biomechanics
- Subjective examination including consideration of red flags and masqueraders
- Physical examination including
- Posture assessment
- Active and passive movement testing including combined movement examination
- Cervical artery dysfunction screening
- Stability testing
- Examination of the muscle system and motor control
- Neural tissue examination
- Mechanisms of action of manipulative therapy
- Manual therapy (including high velocity thrust techniques) and therapeutic exercise in the treatment of articular, neural, and motor systems
